Description
Peavey PV2600 Repair:
A pair of Peavey PV2600 amplifiers in for repair. It was initially thought that they both had failed output amp sections. However, after some diagnostics, it was clear that one had an input board failure and the other did have an output amplifier section failure.
The unit with the input failure was a very easy fix. The customer urgently needed a quick turnaround so we simply swapped a working board into the non-working unit and voila ! one amp fixed.
The other amp was not going to be economical to repair as it required SMD work on the input EQ board as well as a number of output transistors to be replaced. This was going to involve a total strip down of the unit, as shown in the pictures below, to access the power transistors.
Audio equipment that has a rear fan pulling cooling air through should periodically be cleaned. We were amazed at the amount we pulled out. Literally clumps and wads of thick muck. The circuit boards were badly coated with dust debris as were the connectors and heat sinks. A disaster waiting to happen really.
