Description
Speaker isolation hangers
Our Range of Speaker isolation hangers can take loads from 5kg up to 60kg.
With this in mind, usually a minimum of 2 or 3 are used per speaker. This is so they can work within their designed deflection loadings.
For effective structural vibration isolation specific suspension mounts are required to prevent noise from speakers entering the structure.
Usually speakers are directly connected via rigid brackets to walls or ceilings. This transmits high levels of vibrational energy into the structure which will then travel almost unhindered throughout a building.
The speaker needs to weigh at least 5kg (using two hangers). They provide a high degree of structure borne noise isolation, due to their low stiffness and are capable of achieving natural frequencies ranging from 3 to 4Hz.
Another example would be using three ST5.
If the speaker weighs 12kg then each mount will be loaded with 4kg per mount, which is ideal.
However, if the units weighed 30kg then each ST5 would be loaded with 10kg which would be too much per mount. If you are unsure, just email us.
Installation
Threaded rods are required for this product.
The quantity, mount type and placement will depend, to a degree, on the orientation of the speaker and its centre of gravity.
The springs need to be loaded as equally as possible. It is not ideal to have one spring highly compressed whilst another one is barely loaded.
The mounts are fixed to the ceiling using suitable screw/fixing or with a threaded rod (via the 6mm top hole).
The soft foam top needs to be compressed by about 3mm via tightening of the fixing. A threaded M6 rod is secured to the spring top housing and down to a suitable sidebeam or back plate fixed to the speaker body.
With a negligible weight loading, i.e. the spring is barely compressed (0mm), isolation would be in the region of 10Hz.
At about 50% deflection, isolation would be circa 4Hz.
Full 30mm spring deflection (near 5kg) the isolation would be circa 3Hz.
NOTE: An M8 version is available to special order.

The design of these Speaker anti-vibration suspension hangers is composed of:
- 1. Metal parts that are mechanically fail-safe.
- 2. A rubber moulded part equipped with an end stroke buffer in case the acoustic hanger is ever overloaded.
- 3. A prime degree steel coil spring to provide low natural frequency to the acoustic hanger.
- 4. A Sylomer layer to isolate mid-high frequencies that could travel through the coil spring.
We have a couple of blog help articles that provide some further information on vibration isolation. They can be read from the links below:
